    IME it's been light and PH/alk. Others here probably just always have good PH/alk to not know, but if your PH is too low (7.8ish), they will survive but not really grow as much as when they have a bit higher ph and alk.

    Also, sometimes they will shrink a little under new light until adjusted.

    I'm a newbie, take what I say with a grain of salt, just thought I would share what I've witnessed, or thought I witnessed.
