    You are right, they come out in dark alright. So, how big do they get?

    Mostly about a quarter of an inch, around 6 or 7 mm. A few species grow slightly larger. However, if yours turns out to be a trochid rather than a Collonista or Homalopoma, it may get larger than that. If yours is actually a Collonista, it's not the same species that all the other people on here seem to have. Yours has distinct ribs, the common ones don't.
