Is there a killer in my tank?

    hi, well i just came back and saw my tank and i couldnt find my cleaner shrimp, i kept checking and he wasnt at his normal station, now i just got him last week with a pistol and a goby, when suddenly i saw a piece of what was left of him right outside the pistol's hole! is this true? are the pistol shrimp in fact killers, as i was cleaning what was left of him i saw one of my snails there also and what was left of one hermit crab! man i really am thinking i did wrong in buying that pistol shrimp if he is responsable for that!

    most likely. the pistol will be agressive towards other shrimp in a tank of that size.

    thats bad news! im going to buy another skunk shrimp tomorrow hope it doesnt get eaten also

    does anybody know what i can feed it, can i feed it cocktail shrimp for it to eat that instead of my skunk shrimps

    Did you see an actual piece of him or his exoskeleton? They molt fairly often and the shell looks just like a dead shrimp. I was petrified when I first saw it. After molting they will hide so that their new shell can harden. It may take a day or two. So this could be another explanation.

    No he was dead half his body was eaten! I took it out. I've seen when shrimp molt and this was nothing close! Today I'm going to my LFS and hope to get a new one or maybe a fireshrimp I think does are stronger. Back to the question can I feed him cocktail shrimps?

    You can feed him what ever you like - doesn't mean he won't keep killing your cleaner shrimp. Its what they do in the wild, its instinct.

    I deff. wouldn't put it past him at all. Here is a video in nature that will probably justify that.

    Yeah that video is awesome I saw it yesterday as I was reaserching everything about them! Well I'm gonna take a chance and see if he kills again but it sure is nice to know that he is doing good lol! He sure is going to be expensive!
