i was looking for a metal halide light to put across my 75 gal reef aquarium and i came across this

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/48-500-Watt-Metal-Halide-Aquarium-Light-
    Reef-2x-250-/370530662829?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56455939ad

i was wondering why it was so cheap! I really dont have money to throw away, so would someone please tell me what makes this light different from any other metal halide such as the one following?

Metal Halide Reef Aquarium Lighting: Aqualight Advanced Series HQI Metal Halide Fixture

And/or if someone has the light shown in the first link, how has it worked out for you?

the link isnt taken down its only hot linked for half the address for some reason, just gotta copy and paste the whole thing he wrote, That ebay light you posted is essentially the same as the oddysea brand one, its quality of parts used. This is just a mass produced light that uses low quality bulbs and cheap ballasts. I used this brand and found it to be a great fixture, just gotta replace the stock bulbs it comes with good ones and I recommend replacing the ballasts for the MH's on it as well. The leds are great for moonlight, very low watt blue leds.

I'd go Led then your going to throw money away every month on your energy bill with a metal halide

Can a reef aquarium run on an LED light fixture only?

also, if i were to order the halide fixture from ebay, how would i know which ballasts and lights would make it work the best?

sorry for all the questions people, Aquarium lighting is the one thing i cant quite wrap my head around

most people are switching to led, I have been led for a bit now, and now many others as well. initial cost is a bit more, but they pay for them selves, in energy savings, bulb savings, your tanks temp will stay more stable then it will with metal halides, eliminating the need for a chiller in some cases. its win win

also the MH that you are looking at are the "made in China" type nameless cheap models. if you are going to spend money on lights and your concerned about wasting money, listen to the advice given
