I have an Odyssea and I have no problems with it. One guy back in the day probably shoved his ballasts behind a tank with no ventilation and piled stuff on top of it. Now they have a bad rap for no reason. The ballasts aren't great, but are of no danger IMO. If I were dumb, I could make my tank set the house on fire, too.

I've been thinking about getting the T5 or MH for my puffers budget tank. I'm still trying to decide on the fixture as well, sounds like they have improved

i have two of the 150watt halides w t5s and have no problem with them. i've had them for a while now and my corals are very happy with them. for the price go for it. i think there is enough people using them to get an honest opinion. you see threads on here everyday where people's high dollar equipment has failed. everything from their lights to freshwater topoffs. so anything can fail. plus one fire and who knows what the circumstances were. again how many houses burn each year from the christmas tree but is anyone scared to put one up? so at least give them a fair shot.
