I know they have had some bad PR in the past, but lots of people have confirmed that they fixed the wiring issues. Are they actually more 'dangerous' to run than other fixtures?

Ive got 3 different fixtures running in my house and I recently got rid of a coralife fixture because I didnt trust it, I happen to like my fixtures. on a side note everything ive read about the fire was because of thier old out of use magnetic balasts

I think they had some issues a while back with their MH fixtures, but the internet has snowballed and made people automatically assume that any aquatraders light is a fire hazard.

I know a few people with their Mh lights, and none of their houses have burnt down. ;)

I've had no problems with mine, but if your concerned just use a GFI outlet. If your not mechanically inclined, you can actually purchase an adapter which you plug into your wall socket, then plug your lights into that, and the adapter is a GFI. Available at Lowes in the extension cord section for like $10

The new halide and T5 ballast stay pretty cool compared to most. They also implement active cooling on their new systems. I got their T5 fixture. Had it since January without a single issue. I know several people in my local club that have their halides and they swear by them.

I'm on my 3rd Odyssea Halide fixture. My apartment is still standing. And I even got my first one back when they had the old ballasts and everyone told me it would catch fire. I never had a problem and yes they do use different ballasts now that I admit stay a lot cooler than the old one ever did.

    Go for it!

Don't listen to the negatives, they might bash them, but i'll bet they don't know anybody personally whose house burnt,i believe the whole thing got blew way out of proportion.I have owned 2 and have been very happy with both. They are cheaply constructed but you do get your moneys worth as they are very good lights for the money.

My house never burned down, but the ballast did burn out. I guess I did have the older model, still would not invest in one now.
