I have a 55g long tank with 1/2 inch of sand and 50lbs of Live rock.
I am using a maxijet 1200 powerhead with a sureflow 1600 upgrade kit per the recommendation of one of my fish stores.
I was using the 2100gph propeller until today when I added 2 fish for the first time and they seemed to be fighting the current. I took out the 2100gph propeller put the 1600gph propeller in, which seems a little better, but is really noisy.

placement: it is in the back corner as high as it can go shooting longways straight across. is this ideal, or is there a better place for it?

    Thanks in advance!

    thanks for the reply.
Could it just have appeared they were fighting the current because it was a new environment?

Id like to put the 2100gph propeller back on if you think it would be ok.....the smaller propeller is MUCH louder.

Welcome to 3 Reef Otts D

I would put it back on to be honest as I am certain the fish will get used to it and then enjoy it - as long as your not blowing sand about, you will be surprised just how much flow the fish will get used to

The new propeller just needs to settle, it can take a few days. I run the modded MJ's in my tank, and I will say that once they settle, the smaller propellers are MUCH quieter than the big ones. I had to take out the big ones due to noise. That's just my experience with them though.

Don't worry about the fish, water on a real reef moves much more than we get in our tanks. It might take the fish a bit of getting used to but don't worry about them. They can use the exercise, just like most of us can! :)

I have a maxi jet 1200 in my 16 gallon. My clowns and firefish goby seem to really like it; it is in the one corner and blowing toward the center/top. It is clearing sand from the cady corner from its location. I had wondered if it was too much flow but then I thought about the real ocean and figure the real ocean has alot stronger current as well.
