    I was at Trader Joe's today perusing their frozen food aisle to see what goodies they had for my homemade fish food and came across an item labeled as "langostino Lobster" so I ship out my Droid 2 and Google it.

    And Find this definition:
    "Langostino is a Spanish word with different meanings in different areas. In America, it is commonly used in the restaurant trade to refer to the meat of the squat lobster, which is neither a true lobster nor a prawn. It is more closely related to porcelain crabs and hermit crabs. Crustaceans labeled as langostino are no more than 3 inches (7.6 cm) long, and weigh no more than 7 ounces (200 g) [1]. Langostinos are not langoustes (spiny lobsters) despite a similar name (in Spanish, lobster is called langosta). Also, langostinos are sometimes confused with langoustines (Norway lobster), which is a true lobster common in European cuisine [2].

    In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration allows “langostino” as a market name for three species in the family Galatheidae: Cervimunida johni, Munida gregaria, and Pleuroncodes monodon [3]. In Spain, it means some species of prawns. In Cuba and other Spanish-speaking Caribbean islands, the name langostino is also used to refer to crayfish. In South America, the name langostino is used to refer to red shrimp, Pleoticus muelleri."


    The next thought of course was "I wonder if it's reef safe" :cheesy:

    May have to try them (to eat that is)but be warned they are also called "mud bugs" by some as the benthic (adult) form lives in the sand/mud at the bottom. The juveniles/sub-adults are pelagic and are what is caught commercially.

    There's not a whole lot of ..ummm shall we say useful information on them, I read partway through 2 scholarly papers on 2 of the species.:snore1::snore1::dead:
    Anyway just thought I'd share.

    But I do wonder if they'd be reef safe sounds like a cool addition (the Munida gregaria variety anyway, since it looks a bit better)

    mud bugs are crawfish..what every louisiana person eats alomst everyday during season..

    so what your seeing is crawfish..their awesome, please tell me you have heard of crawfish..

    These are a bit different as in SW version I guess.

    But of course I've heard of crawfish/crayfish/crawdads...my brother and I would catch and play with them from the creak near our house...then we'd let them go....unlike the polywogs/tadpoles those went into our wading pool so we could watch them grow into frogs. ;D
