    Hello Everyone,

My husband has been wanting an RO system since he started his salt water tank. I thought it would be a good gift BUT i have no idea what to get him. He has a 135 gallon tank (fish & corals). I was looking at the Kent Marine Bare Bone 24 GPD RO System. We live in an apartment and thought this one would be small and portable. BUT again....i have no idea. Any suggestions would be great! Thank you.

Any RO or RO/DI system can be used portable such as in an apartment. The bare bones type systems have drawbacks, one of which is production rate. The one you mentioned is evry ssslllllllloooooowwww, it drips and takes forever to make even a drinking water glass full. Remember its 24 GPD, thats 24 gallons in a full 24 hour day and only under perfect conditions so plan on maybe 15 GPD on average. Perfect conditions are 60-65 psi and 77 degree F wate rtemperature out of the tap. Most of us don't have that so production is lower since both pressure and temperature affect GPD. You don't want to have your kitchen or bathrooom faucet unavailable to you for day on end making water for the tank.

Bare bones also usually means straight RO not RO/DI which is prefferable.

You might look at the Pro Plus sold here for $149.

Its RO/DI not just RO. It has a inline TDS meter so you know how well its working and has a pressure gauge so you can monitor pressures, filter condition and GPD. It is basically the sam physical size as most bare bones systems since its the RO membrane housing on top that dictates the size bracket. The full size is a little taller since it has the prefilter, carbon block and DI canisters on the bottom but will still fit in a closet or under the sink out of the way. Its rated at 90 GPD at 60 psi so makes better quality water 3 or 4 times faster than the 24 GPD so less waiting around for treated water.
