great looking tank... If I were in your shoes I would throw down some egg crate on the bottom glass since you dont have your sand yet.. Its just a little extra safety factor..

just curious as to why you have the skimmer on the far side instead of the middle?

    1) Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums - The inspiration for the design. When ever i asked "whats a good idea for a sump" every, i mean every said "MELEVSREEF.COM".

    2) It works well..Haven't powered up the skimmer to work full time as im still cycling but the chamber maintains water level pretty constant. The chamber to the far right will be refugium...

    Bama--

Thanks for the tip on the Egg crate.....GREAT IDEA....Do it now before its too late...

got it. i always thought you put live rock in the far right, skimmer in the middle, and the baffles were the bubble remover, then you sent the left chamber to the tank. learn something new everyday!

    looking great though!

did you told her the amount of the budget??
#1 rule. never say the amount.. that way you can do changes as you go. lol

as for the tank tips go.... get a water sterilizer, i thing they work with UV light? those will prevent ich. ( trust me, i learned the bad way R.I.P flame angel)

after your tank cycles get some scarlet shrimps as your first pets. they will also help with ich and are so cool to look at.

ugh this hobby is expensive and time demanding but after you see your fish and tank and everything alive youll feel happy;D

Funny you should ask. Had my first "incident" this weekend. Tank has been up and running for about a week and a half. I did not cement he fitting by the return pump for a possibility of making immediate changes. WHAT WAS THAT FOR. I didn't monitor the tank this weekend due to some personal issues and not being home. I added water to the sump and WOOSH!!!! fitting came loose and water went everywhere. Issue was resolved quickly...

    In any case. Lesson learned.

All water parameters are steady, Nitrites, Nitrates, and Ammonia are low or 0. PH was a little low. Added buffer and waiting for it to stabilize. Will recheck this weekend.

Added 60lbs of sand, Bahama Oolite, not live, going to add another 30 lbs this weekend. Totaling about 90lbs of sand in the display.

Also i added a micron sock around my drain line, the ELIMINATED the microbubbles in the tank.
