...i'm not sure if your thinking what i'm thinking but they look very different to me.....? Well favia are more of a unit as in they are a WHOLE , acans have seperate heads/polyps similar to a zoa i guess.

sorry for the crappy description but i'm confused, maybe ur thinking of a blasto? and an acan? they are more similar to me then a favia and an acan? maybe someone can chime in.

    bump.

Hm. I keep looking at pics of these things, and while some of them follow the template you describe, even more don't seem to.

Let's try this: is this an Acan, or a favia? (And, uh, don't say ZOA, you smart alecks!) :)

That looks like a favia speciosa to me although it's hard to tell without seeing it in real life. Acans are definitely more fleshy and each head is more separated (for the lordhowensis species anyway, echinata and hillae are more single units without separate heads).

It looks a little like montastrea too just to add to the confusion. :)

I've been using the liveaquaria.com's divers den lately to help with ID's because they attempt to put a genus and a species with each piece.
