    And im jumping feet first into a reef tank.I am stating with a 55 gallon and have read your 1,2,3, steps that are posted and will be fallowing them.

    I was going to do a fish only but after reading all that i can it seems most people start out that way and end up going reef.So i am going to bypass this and try to do it this way.Getting the tank and substrate next week,,,I am going with crushed coral because i read that it helps with PH better..What are your thoughts?

    Welcome to 3reef.

    Excellent job on the research.

    My preference is for aragonite sand, stays cleaner than crushed coral. The pH value of substrate is debatable.

    Welcome to 3reef. I use aragonite sand as well besides what coralline mentioned there is some fish and inverts that like sand over crushed coral cause it can be sharp but cant wait to see your tank up and running love watching new tanks when they are coming together. :)
