I had a major ich out break in my tank in early february that took all of my fish..a few weeks afterwards I got a small volitan lion (already made a deal with the lfs guy that he'd take it back when it got too big..dont worry..) and had it qt'd for 3 1/2 weeks so that it would be good to go when my 6 weeks was up..well I put it in a little over a week ago and I looked at it today and noticed 2 little white zits on it's side..moral of the story..i HAATTE ich..and if you're planning on waiting 6 weeks..wait 8

Could have been ich. With my purple tang he had a few spots in the morning and they'd be gone before bed.

    Lionfish/Possible Ich

so if this IS ich...should i be very concerned? I have read that lionfish are very hardy and have a special coating that helps deter parasites..I'm going to start soaking his food in garlic tomorrow..hopefully he will build up an immunity

If he is healthy and strong he should be able to battle off ich by himself.

+1. I really don't see the point of waiting. Ich will always be present if there is fish/inverts. Kind of like us and salmonella ;) Only when fish become stressed from other factors enough will it overtake them. I would be looking more into water quality, diet, and aquascape (hiding/territories) more than anything really.

okay...the only reason i could think of that he is stressed is because i think he's getting tired of his menu! I'll change it up a little this week..he isn't taking the silversides like he used to..i've been getting the "seriously? this again?" face..I'm 99% sure it's not my water quality..and he has numerous places to hide..It's difficult to find him sometimes! I really hope he pulls through..my girlfriend makes fun of me and tells me im a terrible reef keeper because all my fish died on the last ich go around..i couldn't handle hearing more of it! haha and for the sake of the fish of course..

    Thanks!
