i also have a sand sifter. thats doing well have had that longer than the linka. i cut the sand sifters one leg off cleaning the corners of the tank. i pushed the tube right into it :( i it damaged it so much it dropped off at the damage spot. its been a 2 or 3 months and now its growing back :) im now much more careful when cleaning.

ahh sad! I had a sand sifter my boyfriend bought me because my linkia died while on I was on vacation ( he thought he killed it and felt bad ) I had him for over a year he died tho :( but I had to be so carful when cleaning the tank because I never knew where he was lurking in the sand haha. Im glad that its growing back! thats always a good sign.

That is encouraging! I do feed almost always frozen foods, and while my tank is mostly algea free, there is still some hair algea on the rocks and film on the glass. My research also found that people have seen success placing sponge based angel fish food infront of the linckia, and so I picked up a frozen pack of that last night.

The starfish looked extremely healthy when I bought him, no cuts/nicks/discolorations, and is very active.

    Do you spot feed?

Also, I've noticed my peppermint shrimp has acted hostile towards it, picking at the tentacles underneath as it passes by the "shrimp's rock". Could be territorial.

not sure why your shrimps doing that. i have a lot of shrimp in my tank and no one bothers the stars.
no i dont spot feed, but i feed my fish 2 to 3 times a day.
my tank is loaded with little yellow ball like sponges. and a rock coating blue sponge. i dont think the star is eating them or i wouldn't have so many. if it eats it let me know. i wonder what else is in that food? if theres something else the star likes in it.

I cut legs off of a sand-sifting star that I keep in my sump to feed my harlequin shrimp... doesn't seem to bother it or slow it down any though...

Yeah, dont know what else would be in it that would be particular to a sponge based food vs any other... other than sponge, lol!

I also feed my fish twice daily, frozen 95% of the time. Turns out that my anthias LOVE the sponge angel food...

good tip i'll try an angel sponge based food for my anthias. IMO its good to give the fish a large variety of foods.
