    It's not a hitchhiker IMO. It's just new growth that is either bleached from lack of light or due to age. Looks like normal mat expansion to me.

    Are you talking about the white item under the matting or the purple growth on the edge?

    The purple growth is exactly as RM described.

    Just a guess I would have to say a soft coral type, like kenya or colt but I would need a much closer image. Basically I have no clue.

    I knew you were talking about the white thing. Look at the polyp sticking out of it, it's identical to those on the the top.

    It's either new mat (which will color up over time) or old mat that formed when conditions weren't perfect so it never got the purple.

    It's no hitchhiker IMO, just part of the existing coral.

    FWIWFE...
    If that stuff likes your system do not get it anywhere near your main rock work, unless of course you'd be cool with a tank full of GSP covered rock. ;)
