It's an encrusting gorgonian (usually from the Caribbean).

Got any pic's? I tried that one, it doesn't match the pic's I have seen- I wish you were here - I am sure we could figure it out.

It has five fingers on each polyp, looks like a pom pom- but it isn't- any thing I can do to help you help me figure this one out? I got this from a friend of mine that was from Pakistan (red sea coral)

Either way I have some huge pieces of it, one is 12x8

Yep, that's the one. I couldn't remember the name. It's definitely from the Erythropodium Genus, however the species name Caribaeorum might not be correct if your friend got it from the Red Sea. (Alternatively, he got a frag of it from the Carribean).

I certainly appreciate the offer. ;D However, since I've done some importing from the Carribean, I do not lack (AT ALL) this particular species. BTW, if you want to make some money off this species, find really angular and oddly shaped pieces of LR rubble (or even Tonga Branch) and grow it on that. It will encrust and make for a very interesting looking coral.

yea, but only 5 fingers instead of 6 - that what was stumping me- every encrusting gorg pic I looked up looked like star polyp, this was confusing me.

well Ok inwall, but man- this was driving me nuts- I was told red sea, so I didn't even think- fla. waters. I wonder- does this thrive in the red sea too?

Heh, I have a sump full of weird tonga, some a foot long.

Hey BTW, any links to it's feeding requirements?

Here's a bunch of the Species in the Erythropodium Genus

    Erythropodium astreoide
    Erythropodium caribaeorum
    Erythropodium carybaeorum
    Erythropodium hicksoni
    Erythropodium indica
    Erythropodium marquesarum
    Erythropodium polyanthes
    Erythropodium salomonense

The Caribaeorum spp is going to be found in Haiti, Barbados, Venezuela, and lesser Antilles. My book doesn't say where the other species are found. However, this is a good way to find if any of them are from the Red Sea. Google the Genus species and include the word distribution in the google search.
