    so i received this coral from a family member after his tank crashed. he said he still thought it was alive and saved it. i placed it in my tank today to see if i can nurse it back to life. i believe it looks like a candy cane coral maybe?

    Those are both common names for the Caulastrea spp coral.

    I think it's possibly a Duncanopsis spp too. The polyps are going to have to come out further to know for sure.

    Either way, I would recommend feeding with a good coral food.

    I don't know duncans that well, but I've had a few candy canes and I don't think that is a candy cane.
