Most likely that's the case. Have you ever looked into the tank when the lights are out? Maybe that's when you'll see the web like mucous?

 

m_lacom99 you know what while i was trying to get some pics of the gastropod i saw he webed up a 6'' area around himself just like a thick spider web.
and guess what else i found. two whiskers wondering around the back of one of my rocks. looks exactly like the pic you posted befor.
it sucks these thing are either to small or are in a hard to see spot.
im still trying though.
the things that grow in these tanks are just sweat hna?

 

Maybe that's when you'll see the web like mucous?
what he is talking about doesnt have mucous at all. its just tentelcles (spelling no good) wondering in the current.

 

Checked during the night to see if it had spit out some kinda off goo. But no luck. Just those 2 little tentacles. still a cool creature.
