ok my very close friend has had her tank up for about 5 months its doin very well it is a 55 gallon. no problems to speak of until this evening. her flasher wras is missing most of its tail. all the fish have been together for atleast 3 months and getting along well. she is fearing her tank will get ick because the flasher will most likely be stressed. shhe has a small 6 gallon tank empty and available to use as a hospital tank but it takes time to get a tank ready to accept fish. what should she do?

Start by mixing up some water. Transfer enough water from your main tank to the hospital tank. Move a couple of small pieces of live rock into there from the main tank to the hospital for bio filtering and hiding places. Move the powerheads in the main tank down so they are still in the water. If your heater is in sump move it to main tank. Move your hurt fish to the hospital. Now everything should be stable for the moment. Let the newly mixed saltwater sit for at least a few hours before adding it to the main tank.

Thats not going to cause ick in your tank unless they allready have it. moving the fish will only stress it more. what kind of other fish are in the tank? are they fighting? is the wras eating?

I agree, dont move the fish just yet. Try some garlic in there food, maybe some slimecoat to help heal the fin. Its not a garantee it will get ick, but if the other fish are attacking it, then you need to address that. Keep a eye on it.

i dont know...i can't think of a reason a fish would lose most of it's tail unless something took it off....i have a feeling something isn't getting along..unless it's just some hardcore infection?
