...and I can't find my hydrometer. ugh. I've already siphoned out 5 gallons from my 29g & dumped it outside. I've made up 7 more gallons but can't add it because I don't know the exact SG of the new water.

Where can I get a new hydrometer? I don't have a fish store in my town. Does Wally-World have hydrometers in their tiny little fish department?

I checked their website and it didn't show any matches when I searched. You could call and ask but I doubt if they will even know what it is.

lol. I'll go tomorrow ad check. If they don't..is it alright to have my tank 1/3 empty for 24 hrs?(I will be at a fish store tomorrow) Will this cause a lot of salt creep? Any other problems that may occur? Everything else seems to be running fine...

Try petsmart. Nope, totally safe to leave it partially empty. Just make sure all powerheads and skimmer are below water line. You can turn off skimmer if necessary.

also check the level of your heater, some heaters will not work if the water is too far below the minimum water line. not that I have done that or anything, i just heard it from somewhere

My petsmart has them. You don't need the skimmer for a day or two. I have left mine off for a week before with no problems. Ps. Heater has to be in main tank if it is in sump. I know it is summer but I wouldn't risk it.
