I absolutely love looking at my aquarium from the top. Everything just looks more interesting that way. My next aquarium is definitely going to be a frameless over head view tank. You could do so much more with the aqua scape IMO.

Anyone have pictures of their tank from the top or of their overhead view tank? I would love to see some for inspiration.

it's hard to get a crystal clear top down view of tanks because it's best to have surface agitation which will give you ripples on the surface. My cube is open top and I can easily see the tank from the top down. But again, the surface is constatnly rippling so it's hard to see everything clearly:

Turn off your pumps and powerheads to take the pic. Cant do it right now, otherwise I would post a pic.

Maybe it would get old but I like the ripples. It makes it harder to see but more interesting, IMO. Right now I have the canopy open on my mantis tank and I spend most of my tank watching time looking down from the top. My surface doesn't look as ripply as yours though.

that pic was the most I had of my surface, at work at the moment so can't really take a non-rippled one.

This is my mantis tank from the top, which is the way I view it most often. and I really want to remove the canopy completely.

I drew something up real quick in paint to get an idea of what my current dream aquarium would look like.

Top down view of course because I am crazy about looking down on my reef ATM (and its 10,000x easier to draw).

I may add more rocks along the front and make a sort of barrier reef. The rock in the back is a large pipe organ coral skeleton I have been saving for a special occasion (would make a sweet mantis den).

    What do you guys think?

I agree 100% that tank is awesome.

The volcano tank and watching the young sergeant major damsels from the rocks in Key West are what got me interested in this type of aquarium.
