Well I think I am not going to let my reef fall into the hands of luck this year that we don't get a Hurricane or bad storm here in Tallahassee that will knock out the power to my house for an extended period of time....Home Depot has Sportsman 4000W Generator on sale for $299 right now, and I think that will be more than enough power to power necessities in my my reef and my predator tank....The generator will run about 9hrs on a tank of gas...so i would have to either modify the tank or just have plenty of gasoline on hand :) I suggest others take advantage of this deal and buy one before something bad happens

You won't need as much time with the lights on (most of the load of a tank is right there for reefs), maybe not all of your powerheads/pumps, and probably not all of your heaters if you have multiples. That means you can run the generator at a lower RPM to save gas.

a 4kw generator is mooooooooooooore than enough to run all that nonsense

if you have a 220 outlet you can just backfeed into your panel and run some of your house circuits too

just be sure to shut off the main to the grid

Yeh I figured I would run the lights maybe half the time or less they usually would run on the reef...not at all on the predator tank , cut out the heaters all together (since it will be hotter than crap if the house doesnt have air) and run the powerheads and pumps full on, for max oxygen...then use ice to cool the tank for however many days it might go out.

better to have to much than not enough. Here is hoping to another year without needing to use it.

I have a 5000 generator and it runs my 220, my 92, my red sea, my furnace, and my fridge and a few lights in the house, oh and a small 20 in tv. I think 4000 with run just the tank if your looking for only that. I would spend another 100 for the model that is 5000w and has an low oil shut off.
