    You can not glue clams.

A Maxima clam can recover but it is a lot of stress.

My suggestion is put it in the sand bed and see if it can recover.

Where did you buy this clam from? Could you have mistakenly thought the foot that was holding it down was glue? It may be best to just leave it alone and see what happens.

A picture will help as well.

    Addition,

Clams have a gland near the foot that lies down byssal threads. They need to move about at the base to be able to do so. They move the foot and lay down more threads, if they can not move the foot or entire body of the clam it causes stress.

Larger Maxima may not need to lay down byssal threads, similar to larger clams like Derasa, Gigas.

If your lighting allows you can leave Maxima in the sand bed. Although they are by nature rock boring clams like Crocea, they do well in the sand bed.

Gotta agree with the others, Clams should never be glued and there, I doubt, was ever any glue on him. It may have looked like glue but it was most likely a foot that had attached to the rock.

I have heard you can get super glue to unattach by using ice but I am sure ice is going to make it more uncomforatable for the clam and then there is the problem of whether or not you got any inside him or on his fleshy part.

We once had a parrot that bit into a bottle of super glue and glued his beak shut. It was a chore, and he was mad, but I managed to get a sharp tip knife between his beak and pop it open. The squaked like I killed him and had it dripping down his mouth for about a year but it did no serious damage to him which is what I was worried about.

I'm not sure what you should do to get him to release if he is still glued to the rock which I think he probably is.

Before I did anything, I would wait a little while (hour, two, three,) to see if anyone has any other ideas to make him more comfortable and maybe a better way to get him off the rock. You don't want to hurt him worse.

Remember too, if you try to pop him off the rock with a knife, he could break in two. I would wait for other suggestions before attempting to get him off.

Ok I bought it from o street aquarium in sacramento California. Thay had 5 he said they were all glued 1 week ago. So I got it home sat it in the tank. My little bro made it fall when he was feeding the har. Shrimp so when I picked it up it was holding on by stringy stuff the glue was on the shell and the rock so I paniced and glued it more. Why would he glue them if I was not supposed to what is my Best bet. Do I take bone cuters and take the glue out? I can't believe I just wasted 60 bux

Can we get a photo? If the glue is just on the aside of the shell there won't be an issue. If the glue is where the foot comes out, just leave it alone. The more you do, the more you will stress it out.

Do not panic, cut away what you can, put it in the sand bed.

Pulling at the clam will cause tearing of the base ligaments, which will cause the clam to close lopsided.

Sometimes this can be corrected, but that is not the norm.

Go back to the LFS and get a refund, it takes a minimal amount of research for them to know the basics of clam husbandry.

Lastly these things happen to all of us at one time or another, it's a learning curve.

    Good luck
