a week? i think the times people come up with for adding fish are all arbitrary based on their own experiences.

id add fish with a week duration and my params would screw up. for my personal setup i have to go every 3-4 weeks to add a new fish for the bacteria to catchup otherwise i run high on nitrates for the first few weeks.

I say a week, but just would wait a couple days atleast incase your ammonia and nitrite spike.
The nitrate spike really isn't dangerous unless you have sensitive corals/livestock. I'm assuming your watching it anyway with new additions.

Aside from an insane Green hair algae outbreak (a year of using phosphate-laden store bought water) I haven't had many huge "stressful" tank problems. I feel for the stresses you have had. That being said my tank helps me deal with my other stresses. For the most part I look forward to the water changes and the daily maintenance. When I am "playing" with my tank as the ex called it I am not thinking of my job, my kid, my bills all that other garbage. I get to work on my own little piece of the coral reef that is miraculously living in my house. I am trying to replicate to the best of my ability a little slice of one of our planets fragile eco-systems. The rewards for me far outweigh the frustrations, and I hope they continue to do so. I guess when they don't I too will throw in the towel.

What is brooklynella? Ich? I have never heard Ich called brooklynella before. I guess it's true. You learn something new every day.

Ich isn't brooklynella. They're two seperate diseases. I only mentioned ich because the concern was over letting a tank go without fish for long periods of time. Many people do this to cure ich.

Actually, to answer my own question, I did a little research and learned that Brooklynella is a form of saltwater Ich, commonly associated with Clownfish, typically referred to as Clownfish Disease. Again, you learn something new every day. And Madman, I think you should hang in there. It will get better.

from my own experiences, dont rush to any quick decisions regarding taking it down. Sit on it for a bit and see. If in a couple months you are ready to sell it, then sell it then. I still say I am taking my tank down, however the inkling to do it is not as strong as it was several weeks ago!

Going fishless for a couple months is going to be the best thing you can do....it will kill the brokenyella and allow parems to restabelize. The only other suggestion i would have is to drop a couple pieces of food in the tank every couple weeks to keep the bacteria up. Then when you are ready to restart just do a waterchange, and if you take it down, you can just take it down
