You'll want the macro algae submerged and depending on the kind it may need a light as well.

I have ran into the same problem as you with the sealife systems setup. I broke down and went to petco and bought a 20g long and had a few pieces of glass cut and made it into a sump/fuge. Probably one of the best choices I have made. I have never seen macro algae out of water so its probably a no on that

do you not have a compartment in there that holds at least some water?

could you add a small acrylic wall/ baffle, before the return pump section so that water level will rise in that area so that your algae stays submerged

maybe you could even just add a lenght of drain pipe into the drain hole so that the water level rises in there before flowing out of the drain

in the mean time one of those fish breeding traps, could be floated in the DT and hold your algae until you can modify your wet/dry to accomodate

    Looks OK to me

but that white egg crate above it is not required
its open enough to let light through, but its not serving any purpose being there
it was orginally there to allow you to place filter pads above the bio balls
but you do not need filter pads now s your mechanical fliltration is being taken care of by the sock on the outlet
