I amgoing with a 10 gallon above tank sump, basically just to house some chaeto, mangroves, pods, skimmer (Hang on eshopps), and heater. I think a 1'' hole will do because I don't want much flow in there anways. Which one of these flanges do I want? I don't get the whole slip vs thread thingy. And they sell drill bits for 15 which is nice b/c there 40 at home depot and wallmart.

you want the slip slip, and don't forget because you are getting a 1" bulk head does not mean you get a 1" hole saw read the OD on the package when you get the bulkhead so you don't buy 2 hole saws. also the slipxslip means that the pvc you put into each end just slips in vs having to get threaded joints to connect it.

You will find it whole bunch easier to use the slip/slip mostly becasue its can be hard to have to thread things together IMO.

And as far as drill bits go, you can get them right from glass-holes or you can get a whole set from ebay for what you pay for them from glass-holes. Here is a link to a set that is good for 1/2, 3/4 and 1" bulkheads.

Yes general rule is to add 3/4" to the size of bulk head you are installing to get the hole size. LOL doe that make sense? Doesn't to me. :-/

I emailed the guys at Gl*******s & they responded the same day. They've been real good about it too. Just ask what size saw you need, blah, blah.
