i just thought of rearing a lionfish, ONLY one lionfish in my 45litres tank. so what do i need to do? i've got my salt and filter all ready. i heard from some shopkeeper that i dont really need a protein skimmer coz its a small tank, but i just need to change 20% of the water every week. is that possible?

helpme are you sure its 45 Litre and not 45 gallons?

in my opinion, if its 45 litres ( 10 UK gallons or 11 US gallons ) its not a big enough tank to house a Lionfish , they are very messy feeders, create a lot of waste and you will struggle to maintain it for a long period in that sized tank

You might be better looking at smaller fish species in a tank of that size
check out the Nano threads on this site for ideas on fish species for these sized set ups

Any Lionfish you put in 11.8 Gallons will have a very short lifespan.

yea but lionfish doesnt move much, and it'll probably have enough space to swim if i buy a small one. my tank is around 2 feet. lol kinda small

even a dwarf can get seven inches long, in my opinion if you want to pack a small animal in a glass contianer get a bonsai kitten Bonsai Kitten
jk dont actually do that to a cat.

the problem is that a lionfish is a predator, that means it eats alot and the food is very messy, it would be akin to having a small fish die in it every week, that would seriously be a unmanagable bioload for a 10 gallon tank.
a dwarf would be doable in a 30 gallon tank with a good skimmer.

im not even gonna cover regular lions as they get huge and wouldnt even fit in a 30 gallon tank, or a 50 gallon long for that matter.
