    What did the lfs say your MAG levels are? If they didn't test it then go ahead and get a test kit and test it yourself, you'll need it later anyways. My guess is your mag is around 900-1100. Get that to above 1300. Also use the reef additives calculator to get your dKH up to around 10. Those will both help drop calcium levels. And don't add calcium EVER, unless you test it and it falls below what you want (me personally is 450ppm). Then use the additive calculator again to find out the dosage amount to get it up to exactly where you want it.

    I added magnesium once. Not since then tho. I don't have a test kit for it either. Guess I'll look into that today.

    The part I don't get is how my calcium ended up that high. Before I had the corals and even a few weeks after I never added any calcium into the tank. Right off the bat I was getting that funky reading, meaning it was ridiculously high from the beginning.

    In any case;

    How long does it take to deplete calcium? I'm sure it depends on the level, amount of livestock, and tank size.

    But what's the average. Does it deplete over a course of days, weeks, months?

    what type of salt do you use? I noticed my calcium level got high when I was using a particular brand (when I first set up my smaller tank without all the stoneys)

    Instant Ocean. I think it's the only one I've been using from the start.
