I am cycling my 265 its about 2 weeks in...and when i got home and turned on the lights for the 2.5hr time i am running them while the tank cycles i notice the water looked a little "cloudy"...my first thought was...microbubbles!! NOOOOO where from!?...but upon further inspection it appears to be a GIANT Copepod outbreak..they are ALL over the glass (doing their little invasion dance), and floating in the water...has anyone ever had this happen before?

I didn't have one that large but it did happen. There is no need to turn on the lights if you don't have corals or macro algae. Your algae phase will come soon enough without hastening with light. There is no or very few predators on the pods so their population will explode as long as there is sufficient food for them.

I keep my lights on while its cycling because I just love gazing into it wondering what it will be like with fish. Plus, its just relaxing for me to watch.

Agreed they are doomed when you add the fish. Most definitely breed away.

I have a good size fuge with a DSB, Mangroves and some macro...not too worried about manually maintaining them..they should be good on their own, esp with a starting population this size...there has to be 10million copepods in this tank...its rediculous

hey im new to the seen but putting pods in the fuge would give them a place to spawn but wouldt you loose a vast majority of them on the returnside headin back to the tank just a curious noob type question
