Ever wonder what your tank parameters were at while typing up that super important word doc for your boss/professor? Me either. Could you use another distraction so that spreadsheet you've been working on all day takes even longer? Of course you could! Introducing the next installment of subscriber applications to the ReefAngel Client Suite.

The next few subscriber apps to utilize the near-realtime parameter pushing capabilities of the client suite will consist of Office Add-in Ribbons. With the introduction of "Ribbons" in MS Office 2007/2010 we can easily create our own to do almost anything, including modify the document itself.

I'm hoping to target Word and Excel for sure. Maybe Outlook as well. The idea being that your tank parameters are available in realtime directly within your office application. Eventually, you would be able to directly control the ReefAngel right from MS Word/Excel.

Right now its's still very proof of concept, but with the foundation already laid with the Client Suite - Implementing this kind of subscriber should be pretty easy.

Here's what I have so far.

Also, expect the first iteration of the Client Suite to be released in the next week or two. I've finished up everything major already and now working out a few minor bugs and polishing up the installer.

    Thank Dingo,

If anything, I'll have a go and try to port over to Linux once everything settles down and I'm confident everything works as expected. Unless someone who has a Mac is up for porting it over, there's no real way for me to develp/test on a Mac :( I really wanted to have a shot at my first iPhone app too

Don't know if you know this, but developing for iPhones requires OSX as well.

    Yes indeed.

That's why the iphone app is a ways out, as is Mac support, at least on my end... :-/

Always willing to team up with other developers though. I know there has to be a couple other 3Reefers out there with some development experience who enjoys contributing to the open source community.

I ran into this same problem when I looked into making iphone apps a while ago, so I just said "'ta hell with it then" and stopped.

What about android/blackberry? I wish i had more time to throw my hat into the ring to help with this, but unfortunately I dont. =(
