I want to make a sump for my 33 gallon and I hear that I can use my canister for that. How exactly will that work? Does anyone know how to make a sump with the help of my canister filter? thanks.

That doe snot work. You can put you canister in the sump I suppose, but it would be pointless. Canister filters can be biological, but really all they are is mechanical filter with some chemical filtration.. GAC or what ever. You don't need a canister with a sump. You use filters in the sump in various ways.

A canister would be more like a closed loop since the water stays contained and is never exposed to atmosphere.
A sump drains to an open vessel by gravity then gets pumped back up to the display. One big advantage is it allows aeration and oxygen transfer in the process, another is the sump gives you room for things like skimmers, refugiums, heaters, media, baffles etc.
