I was thinking something like that, says it has a thermostat

I found some 1kw heaters also but they were set temp heaters, they turned on at 60 and off at 80 so kind of worthless for what you need it for

That's a good looking heater and the price is right!

Most stock tank heaters are as was stated before only good for up to 55 or 60 degrees, the one above say's turns on at 55 an most likely shuts off at 60. Once you get all that water and rock up to 80 degrees as long as its insulated its not going to be hard to keep it there.

yeah thats a good point, just toss in a couple of normal heaters and you'll probably be golden I didn't notice the fact you cant set the thermostat on that heater I posted just that it said it had one.... what i get for making assumptions

Why not just use Aquarium heaters? You could get a Finnex Heater controller for $30 then very inexpensive heaters for another $30 (500W)

yea that is why it would just be a booster not a total heater. Just an Idea

I run Finnex heaters on my 180. :) THought maybe they wouldn't handle the load. Guess the result is going to be an insulated garage wall coupled with insulating (maybe spray foam around the tub) and a good insulated lid. I knew I would need the lid to curb evap from the extreme temp difference...

About the safest bet I've found is just using some plastic aquarium heaters. I'm thinking 3 X 300 watt heaters will be sufficient if the insulation around the tub is good. I'm also going to need a slick way to make a lid that fits pretty tightly over the top of this tub. Heck maybe a big 2 inch piece of exterior house foam coupled with brick would be enough! ;D

Looks like I need to invest in some expanding foam!

For insulation top try 4in blue board. I have seen it in lowes before. you can cut it to fit with small saw + easy to mold. Be cautious with the expanding foam it don't do will with time if it gets wet constantly, it will eventualy crumble. But other then that it is great stuff ha ha. Better yet see if you can find an old hot tub lid. But just ideas. good luck.

I dont know if it was mentioned or not, but your going to place 150 lbs of rock in a 100g tub. In reality, you wont have 100 gals of water to heat, more like 10-20 gals of water. Luna
