My stand is 47 and I like it :) would never go smaller. Gives me lots of room and good for standing areas

36" is what i got but a little taller would be nice too. at 6ft i can reach the bottom sand in my 55 and i dont have to stoop much to see in while standing. a 24" skimmer will be your limit tho and i wish i had more room to maneuver.

I made my 75g stand about 36" and my BC14 stand about 48". I like my tanks at eye-level. :)

my stand is around 38".. i really like this height, no hunching over at all, and with a 29" tank its make the tank look WAY bigger in person... stand height can make or break a tank to me..

When I built my stand I measured up to my armpit and used that measurement as to where to put the top of the tank. I wanted it as high as possible without it being so high I could not stick my hand in all the way to the bottom without a step ladder of some sort.;D

I'm just about halfway done with my stand and I went with 45" to the bottom. I will have to get a chair or step stool to reach the sandbed but that's no biggie in my book. The center of my 40b is exactly eye level and is absolutely amazing. (I tested the height by placing the tank on my kitchen counter, it has a raised section for eating on bar stools and such);D;D;D

The stand for my 29g is 20" high. It's waayy too short to view the tank w/o sitting down - it's in my dinning room. The stand for the 75g is 42" tall - should make for a much better viewing height, I can fit a larger sump/skimmer underneath, and now my tank is at eye-level. Much better than the 29g stand.

I think I made my stand for my 40B about 32 inches high total. I wanted to have enough room on the inside to remove the skimmer cup on various skimmers. I used this as a template.
