on my old tank, the water was changed once every 4 years. only because I moved and had no choice. I had excellent growth on all my corals and very good success. teh new tank will be the same way.

wow ... I need to start changing less water ... wait, can you say it like that lol.

I have been doing about 20% every 2 weeks ... but clearly I don't need to be.

I'm a freshwater guy, so 50% a week seems normal to me ... 10% monthly??

Sounds like something worth experimenting with. I have about 30 gallons mixed up for my next water change, so I'll do that one ... but then just start testing weekly and see what happens with my parameters!

50% weekly can be disruptive to your system; it's far too much water to change.

I do 15-20% every few weeks, when I remember. That typically means 3 to 6 weeks between changes.

I was only referring to my freshwater tanks ... where 50% is no problem at all. The most successful discus breeders in north america change 90% of their water every 2-3 days ... and even discus, which are quite finicky are fine with that.

I only change about 20% at a time in my reef.

Wow..... I work way too hard on my tank then...

I do about a 15% water change weekly on a sunday like its my religion ;)

I look forward to doing water changes.... believe it or not.

Its like a breath of fresh air for the tank.

Me personally I wouldnt dare the once a month... or every couple months...
