He give you extras, so you could do a smaller one, like for a 20ish gallon and it will be fine.

This totally makes sense. Are you aware of any graphical representations that depict this and who the consumers at each level are (I'm assuming it's a bit more complex than fish --> CUC --> bacteria)? That would be a sweet resource that a relative novice like myself would really be interested in. Should be a poster in every LFS....

This fact is often overlooked by a majority of the reefers out there. An example would be:
Tangs, large fish --> wrasses, small fish --> anthias, planktivores --> mobile invertebrates --> starfish --> hermit crabs --> snails --> detrivores --> benthic microfauna (sandbed critters) --> pelagic zooplankton, plankton --> immobile invertebrates, coral --> bacteria --> skimming

You would be surprised at how many tanks lack pelagic zooplankton and plankton. Some only have a few cultures of each in staggeringly low numbers. This really effects the growth of the next organisms in line...

I may have missed a few but that is a general run down.

i think I'll do that. Should I add Chitons? I'm having a bit of a GHA problem right now, and I heard that they'll eat it.

That's some very interesting info. Thanks :)

I have never had any Chiltons, so I can't comment on them. However the large Ceriths that come in John's standard CuC do eat consume it!

I feed only once a day, a decent amount.. plus every few days I'll toss in some freeze dried cyclop-eez. All the fish seem to have full bellies... so I assume they are happy. :D
