    Hi Guys,

I just bought a 20 long for a sump and was wondering how structurally important the top trim is. I would like to cut out a corner to mount my bulkhead holder. The trim is too big. Any ideas? The tank is glass...I can get the brand if needed. Thanks!!!

you can trim out a little on the inside lip, but not on the outside! its a solid piece for a reason. it helps to keep the glass from bowing out and separating.

the top trim is only there for decoration and holding glass etc, it doesnt serve any other purpose

that what i've been told by an aquarium manufacturing company

i would not take it off, IDK who told you that but from what ive been told thats wrong. If taken off it will cause the glass to Bow and possibly break, play it safe and leave it on.

I know a guy who had a glasscages tank explode.

I would not remove the trim. On larger tanks they include a center brace as part of the trim piece that extends from front to back to keep the tank from exploding.
