Well I will be redoing my tank sometime next week & I was wondering how much of a cycle will I get? I have about 13 lb of rock in my 29g. A cc base with one fish. I currently have an algae problem.

I'll empty the tank, putting the fish in a temporary container. Drilling for an OF line. Then adding the water & replacing the cc with 30lbs of argonite. Then putting rock back again, maybe adding some more base rock. Put fish back in the tank. Add to my cuc.

-So how bad will it be?

-Can I add the one fish once the sand has settled? Or should I wait a bit longer?

-Should I use my current water? Or do a large water change, replacing half with new mixed water?

it will be a cycle alright but seeing as how you only have one fish I wouldn't worry.

Keep the rock in the original water and when you put the tank back together then use some of that water and add new water. I did the same thing a long time ago when I redid my 125 and had a lil cycle.

So will I see the usual diatoms(sp?), some GHA & mabye a spike in nitrates & phosphates?

How long until I can add another fish? I'm not trying to rush this.

I planned on putting the rock & as much water as I can, in the temp container...not replacing any water until after I add the stuff back to the tank again.

On a side note you know your tank better than everyone else. If your numbers come in faster than you think, meaning all zeroes, then it should be your call. I am only giving you my opinion.

Well your opinion is what I was asking for. ;)

I have the water from my WC yesterday. I'll test it tonight to see where I stand, currently.
