Thanks for the comments guys. I will definitely keep the oxygen level issue in mind. I haven't seen any problems with anyone, but I may right on the edge. I don't have any corals and don't plan on putting any in this tank.

Just for my education, how big will this guy be when it is time to move it? Thanks!!!

I wouldn't keep him period but that's just me. I would think that a 3 inch hippo tang would be hard on a 55 gallon tank.

im agreeing with daniel regarding the hippo ivy. great looking fish but sadly not the right one for your tank, and since you arent planning on corals, full steam ahead with the flame. lol

I have a coral beauty that I have not been able to catch without removing all my rock. She is a coral eater. Started out being a mellow little fishy. Then it nipped. Then it ate a zoa rock. Daddy was not happy. As long as you keep them fed, you should be OK. But you are taking a chance. I flat out don't trust any angel, dwarf or not. There are plenty of cool looking fish out there.......I wouldn't chance it.

Oops. No corals. Go for the flame.

And I agree with ditching the tang. Tangs of any size don't have any business in a tank less than 75g IMO. I have one in my 90g and I consider that borderline.

I've seen alot of tangs in a 55g tank and they seem fine. I personally wouldnt do that, but I've seen it. Filtration has everything to do with how many fish you can keep in a tank. Of course, Im not suggesting to place a shark in a 20g tank, but I hope you understand the point Im trying to make. As far as the O2 consumption, any tank that has a over flow system or a sump should be fine.

Like the poster mentioned below your post, these fish are hit or miss for whether they will eat corals or not.

Flames are more hit, than miss as to being reef safe. Coral beauties are IME not reef safe more often than reef safe.

Well, the the hepatus tang will get to be a good 10 inches long when mature.

I would not keep one in a 55g much past the 3" zone.
