I am looking at doing a standard 55g tank BB as a mixed reef. Only a couple of fish and about 50-60 pounds of rock. The real question here for me. I know if I am doing corals flow is good and with a BB I need flow to keep the particulates from settling. Is there a formula to figure out the amount of flow I should be looking for? Such as turning my volume over 25 times a hour or 50 times a hour? Right now I am looking at getting two Koralia 1400s. You don't need to drill for these, correct? From the looks of it they have some sort of magnetic mounting, is this correct?

Your planned purchase sounds about right. No drilling is needed for the Koralias. Yes they used magnetic mounts and the mounts are very strong.

You may end up getting more Koralias if you have dead spots.

I have 2x 1400 and a 400 (had it lying around so tossed it in behind rockwork) in my 65. I kind wish I had went with more ph's of a smaller size. It's hard to get the flow the way I would like with only two large sources of flow. I would have liked maybe 3 or 4 of the 750's instead.

That's a nice suggestion thanks. I was thinking about that myself. Perhaps I will go with one 1400 and some 400's and/or 750's. I will do some more looking when I get back to the computer. I was wanting at least one good strong one to use to clean my LR off occasionally so I don't get a bunch of detritus built up on them. Although I guess a 750 would probably do fine for that. I've never done it but I read it works well.

I don't know the dimensions of a 55, but I have 2 750's in my 40 breeder and its all I need. It isn't a BB though so I don't have to worry about stuff collecting in the corners or back.

On a side note: The magnets on the 750's and up are STRONG. You can pinch you fingers quick if you're not careful. Just a heads up.

I have 2 koralia 750's in my 55! Gonna add a maxijet to fill up a dead spot! I def think after playing around with the locations of these 2 that you're gonna want at least 3 750's if not a fourth to hit every angle!
