I just measured with 2 different kits, and got the same reading.

About 540. My alk/DKH is 12. Is this too high? I thought 420-480 is best.

I agree with inwall. Just watch your dosing in the future.

I have been dosing with Kalk the past few days trying to get up my ph. My Alk/DHK went from 8 to 12, and cal from 440 to 540. But the ph has only gone as high as 8.10 during the day. I just wanted to be sure that I wasnt in the danger level of calcium. Obviously I need to cut back on the Kalk but still need to get the ph up.
Someone suggested baking soda. Has anyone tried this? How much would I use?

are there any real dangers or bad effects to corals or livestock in the tank if your calcium is very high?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I have seen your previous thread on pH, and I do not think you are that far off. Seems like fairly normal swings IMO. My focus would be more on the alk and ca and the pH should fall in line. Increasing surface agitation, reverse lighting cycle on a fuge and or sump are all good ways to maintain a more stable pH. A stable pH in the high sevens to low eights is more important. Consistency is key.

I was really more worried that the high calcium I have right now might have an ill effect on the corals. At least my Alk came in line!-haha
I have a powerhead just to work the surface area, and three others workin the tank aside from the 2 return lines split into 2 each with linelock.
I tell ya though, having a pinpoint meter for certain things is a wake-up call for sure!

Calcium wise your fine, alk is very much on the high end. As other posted the calcium will come down on it's own. Are you monitoring your magnesium as well?
