I've done fragging demos at IMAC's and MACNA's. By necessity, the tank with the mother colonies is thrown together quickly. Judicious use of Carbon, water changes, and ozone has helped substantially and we've not experienced losses. However, we've never attempted this with colonies straight out of the wild and I suspect that many would have died in this situation.

Just talking from experince here, your experince may be different. I too have done many MACNA's,IMAC's and smaller shows. Every show has at least one cloudy tank

At HH Backer, I watched two tanks melt. At WMC, I watched one melt. I've seen 4 wholesale systems melt and at least 2 LFS systems crash. All due to to quick of stocking of corals. All were run by very experienced people, doing what ever they could to try to stop it. Carbon, Ozone, UV, DE filters, W/C, etc.

Yep. That risk is always out there. It's a hard decision....teach people how to properly frag corals and educate vs. risking a meltdown. When I was there, it never happened. There was always the possibility though. I believe the risk lessened when using tank-raised specimens.

I definitly agree on that one :D

I've done a few frag workshops myself, but we did them at a wholesalers with endless supply of clean water :D

If your tank is relatively new, no more than two per week and then let things equalize. While it's frustrating having to build up your tank over time, it would be a LOT more frustrating to watch your brand new tank crash and have every living thing in it die.
