I have a percula clown, and when ever I have to clean out my 35 gallon hex, it always starts to attack and bite. I don't know if it is doing that to protect it's territory, or if it's hiding something, because it always hangs out in the exact same spot. I t doesn't go any where else unless it is feeding. So if you have the same problem or have something similar to this, than tell me what you have done, or what you plan to do. Help me out!:gossip:

Clowns tend to be territorial and aggressive, especially if they are a wild fish, not tank grown.

Kill it?????????  Dude thats messed up!!!! Animalluvr don't listen to that idiot!!   The clown is just doing its instinctive duty. I have an anemone in with my gold stripe maroon clown, and believe me that clown is VERY protective of it, and has even nipped at me for going near it. All I have to do anymore is drop some fish pieces into my tank, and my clown does the rest (catches the pieces and literally takes it to the anemone). I don't know what you mean by "cleaning out" your tank though. If your'e doing water changes that shouldn't involve your hand inside the tank. If you have an algae problem, then invest in a magnetic scraper to clean off the glass to minimize the time your hand spends in the tank, and then you wont be attacked. Surely the clown has established that area, or maybe the whole tank for that matter, as it's territory and is simply defending it. Thats no reason to destroy an animal that has already been forcefully removed from its natural habitat, under no will of its own, to be housed in the alternative you are providing it. Like I said it's just doing what it does and of that warrants killing it, like geoxman's attitude, then people like him don't deserve to partake in this beautiful hobby and should leave it to those of us who respect these animals! However I admit, if the clown is being that territorial, you might have reason to worry about adding fish in the future. Although I've never had a problem adding new fish with my clown being in the tank for years, every animal has a different personality. Clowns in general are peaceful and compatible with most other fish, except con-specifics. And even sometimes then, they wont be that aggressive at all. Hope that helps............surely its better advise than the idiot who posted before me (I'm sorry, but things like that just bust my buttons!)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
