the vent idea might possibly work

and i could probably do large bags of ice, and the tank is right next to a window so its had the sun beating down on it all day so that doesnt help things either

    ill look into window film

    Hi Puffer,

As you know I'm in OC as well and it's a scorcher today. I used frozen water bottles in the sump and / or display along with several fans blowing across the top when the temps reached 90 out here. It worked to keep the temps on my 55 at around 82 to 83 and I had no ill effects.

I have since added a chiller and can now keep my temps at 80 or less even during the hottest days. I have heard my chiller kick on at least twice today.

I would try the fan and frozen bottles first (lot less expensive) and if you can't keep the temps under 84 then consider a chiller. This may be warm for our winters but a normal thing during the long summer.

    Good luck!

if you open all windos at night blow air in with fans and close the windos first thing in the morning and keep them covered in the day from the outside is best your house will stay much cooler well it works for me

last summer my ac broke in mid july... obvs tank got crazy hot...
the zip lock trick works well. i used the biggest ones i could find and just fill em with cubes, works very well. if you have a internal return pump maybe try getting an external if you can. if the electricity bill is an issue using a chiller will add to this issue but not as bad as ac unit :p. take lids off or at least allow a crack. and you have already read post about fans.

There is no way my wrasse would ever make it through those holes. The holes are pretty much the same size as egg crate.

I also have a bowfront. you'll have some area not protected due to the bow. Look at my pictures. Same thing with the HoB equipment. You'll have to cut the netting short there leaving some sections unprotected. You're covering 90% of your tank though greatly reducing the risk of a fish making it out.
