I´m curious about what to get for my false percs to host in... I´m up for suggestions of coral or anemone hosts. I´ve tried with gbta and rbta, but no luck. I was told a carpet nem would be ideal, but don´t those eat fish? How dangerous are they? Alternative (less dangerous) options??

You could try an LTA as they might that home very inviting. ;)

Clowns are funny--sometimes they practically dive into an anemone, sometimes it takes weeks or even months, and sometimes they just never do.

It's a good idea to try to get a nem for them vs. a coral. Some corals don't mind and others get stressed from the constant agitation.

My research found that M-M Carpet anenomes, If that's the carpet anen. you were talking about, almost NEVER play host to a clown.

HOw long did you try the BTA's for?

My O. clown and my Black sebae often go to my GBTA, but only after at least three weeks! It seems to be hit and miss.

Long tentacle anemones (LTA) will often host your type of clowns.

I agree with you that it's hit n' miss--it can be disappointing because there is no guarantee. Clowns are weird sometimes, I've seen them find a home on the top of a powerhead ::). when there is an anemone in the tank. That doesn't seem too comfy. lol

I've never owned a gbta so I cannot help you on that.

Thanks! I had the GBTA for about 6 months with no luck, and I got the rbta about 2 months ago. Do RBTAs count as LTAs?

No, RBTAs are a different animal altogether. Ans, long tentacle nems need to be buried in the substrate to be happy. And they sure are purdy. :)

I've heard of people taping a picture of a nem and clown(s) to the side of the tank. Does it work? Very clever idea. :)

Carpet nems are very sticky and definitely will sting you and could very well eat the clown. Unfortunately I've seen that happen. Mine also wrapped around my arm once and I had a heck of time getting him off. And, I had a rash on my arm for many days. Ouch.

Drs. Foster and Smith rocks! I visit their site a lot, especially when first starting with something as I have been with my new freshwater planted tank. Loads of great information.
