Could be a number of things.
    1. Need to test for amn, nitrites, nitrates and phos.
    2. You might be going through a small cycle, did you add ANYTHING new to the tank?
    3. The tank can not recieve any type of sunlight, direct or indirect
    4. Do you have enough flow?
    5. Is there anything dead that you dont know about?

I would definetly run some phosban or something similar, water changes and run the lights for only 6-8 hrs a day.

Thats right, you did say tap water. Thats a no-no in my book. I would never trust tap water no matter where you were getting it from. I got my 4 stage R/O unit from ebay for $40.00 with extra filters. Shop around. Even if you dont use it on a fish tank, its good to have good drinking water for yourself and family. Shhhhhhhh That was my excuse for the old " ball and chain ":hehe:

Nope, however, I did move to a different place so Im thinking it must be the tap water and not enough water changes/cleaning.

The algae you have as with most all algaes does not like High PH and Carbonate and Calcium levels check them and get them up to par I think you will see it burn away also tap water is always a no no Plus using it for any water changes will only add to the problem as you are just re-adding who know what.. But you bump the PH up to 8.6 or 8.7 and DKH up to 13 or 14 and calcium to 450 -500 and magnesium to 1500 ppm and you will see a difference .

Hard to tell from the pictures but it does not look like you have anything in there to eat a bit of the green away that might help a bit as well.

Is that so? That's great info! I never knew that. But it makes sense, in that I DO know that the above numbers are necessary for the growth of coralline algae, and come to think of it; I've NEVER seen both coralline algae and hair algae in the same tank!
