So I'm hopefully getting a job tomorrow as an insurance adjuster so I'm already thinking of upgrading a tank haha. First question is easy, is there anything so special about using miracle mud over sand in a refugium?

    2. I am very afraid of having a leak. Whether it be an overflow box, or using a drilled bottom tank (if the power went out). So my question is why don't people drill the top back like most fish stores have? The only reason I can think of is that it might make a slurping sound but I feel like that could be fixed.

well they say u can make ur own mud from kitty litter not sure how beneficial 2. i guess for surface skimmer/overflow to skim the surface better then down the outlet a stand pipe would fix the gargle if u drill up top but far as i know people drill the top i plan on it when i move

Ive tried the kitty litter method and I would not advise it... Its a mess... Luckily I tested it before adding to my fuge and I'm glad i did... Dust storm that wouldn't settle for days even sitting idle... If you go sand, get the smallest grain possible and more the merrier... the backs of tanks are almost always tempered... Check into the tank before you buy one with the aquarium company...

    Good luck
