So I noticed some white spots on my new hippo tang today - sporadic, about the size of salt granules. I can only assume ich. I should have kept him in quarantine longer in retrospect.....a lesson well-learned.

In any case, what now? The options I am considering:
    1) leave it alone in the DT and hope the immune system kicks in (only problems there - I worry about the other fish, and the hippo is not eating reliably yet - still stressed from the move from the store and QT)

    2) Move it back to the QT and try dosing it with a copper-based med
    3) Fresh water dip, then back into the DT
    4) Other

    Suggestions welcome...please!

i would suggest moving him back to QT and treating, and also leave him in for a week or so to make sure ich has gone

Stemanc sorry but I have to strongly disagree.

Hipos are know for ich and it is normally from stress. Just leave him where he is feed him well and all should be fine.

I personally havnt seen many hippos that didnt have ich. Blue regals are prone to diseases. Try kent marine garlic extreme before you use copper meds

i tried the wait and see approach with a blue tang . it was in a copper for two weeks and had a fresh water bath. after a month it developed the small white granuals on it. i bought kent garlic extreme, vita chem, and a cleaner gobie. next thing i knew i was flushing $400 worth of fish down the toliet. i would try a cleaner shrimp, it is an aggressive cleaner. if that dont do it in a week i would put it in the qt.

I agree with you as well.

Hippos, as well as many tangs get stressed and show ich.

Trying to catch him and QT him will only make it worse, and tangs in QT don't usually work so well.

I say have a pair or so of cleaner shrimp, and hopefully they take care of it.

Also feeding garlic to your fish will help apparently. I have a friend that gives a drop of garlic guard to every feeding and it keeps ich off his tangs.
