I just purchased a couple of hydor koralia 4s, I was planning on adding two; on opposite sides, but not facing each other. My aquarium is a 100g and 5 feet long, I was wondering if that much flow is better than only leaving one. I know adding 2 will increase the oxygen level and helps so that the junk doesn't stay still. My fish seemed to like it peaceful and I don't have high-flow requiring coral, so is high flow better or low flow for basically a FOWLR.

    Hi Trigger fish

aside from these Korallia, what else have you got in the system moving water for you
is it just the return pump from your sump?

I have a 4ft tank FOWLR and I had a Sum Sum waver maker (Its a clone of the Korallia)
its rated at 5000 lph which is 1250 US gallons I have it at one side pointed upwards to move the water surface/ ripple - the surface movement is great for 50% of the length and then fades away - So I added a smaller one at the other end ( 3000lph) 750 US gallons but

I would put one on for now, monitor the fishes reaction, allow them time to get used to the increased water movement (which they will) and then consider adding the second one if your not happy with the water movement achieved using the one

I'd stick both of them in. If you think it's too much then only leave one on. Better yet, make your own wavemaker with a couple of timers. Run one for 6 hours then run the other for 6 hours to simulate incoming and outgoing tides.

I have a 5 foot 100G reef myself. I have two Koralia K4's,, one in each back corner pointing somewhat towards the center but at different depths and angles. I also have a closed loop system which draws from the back center through a Ocean Runner 3500 and Oceans Motions Squirt two way and returning in each back corner through LocLines.
The return pumps is also a OR 3500 coming up through the offset center over flow and again out of LocLine.

Current/movement is good but by no means too much. I wil probably add my modified K3 back in soon to increase flow.

I have 330 lbs of Southdown sugar sized sand and 160 lbs of Kaelini live rock and the flow hardly moves any sand at all so more current could be added.

I recently added a Reefkeeper Lite and have the K4's on the wavemaker function, 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off alternating and I like it. One does sometimes chatter a bit on start up but not bad and not every time.

Thanks Steve Wright, I've decided I'll add the other one today.

I was think of doing that, but I thought it wasn't recommended to run koralias on wavemakers.

AZDesertRat, are you saying that there is no such thing as too much water current?

Dont run the hydors on a nave maker unless you have the ones that are made for it. If you do you will burn out the motors FAST on those
