There is a MH/T-5 combo fixture for sale on here for 300 buckls! It is a steal and you could keep anything you want under it. Leighton is the seller. Try some Zoas/mushrooms to start with. They grow quickly and are easy to keep alive

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Power Compacts are probably the cheapest lights that will grow corals and some anemones. I would start searching Craigslist in your area as well, sometimes you can get fantastic deals on decent lighting.

Just let us know what fixtures you are looking at and as sticksmith posted someone will be able to assist you so you will know if you are getting a good fixture that will support simple corals.

Honestly this is an expensive hobby, but 2 things you do not want to skimp on are skimmers and lighting.

Also window shop at Marine Depot. com and Dr. Fosters and Smith. com.

+1 to corrailines and stick smiths posts, so +2 ;)

Read kevins taotronics thread. It seems like 2 of those are sub $300 or so. I'm not convinced yet of there durability, but worth a shot. Maybe look into boostled's par30s (5 should work) or a DIT aquastyle.com 72 led build or rapidled.com 36 led build

I would go for the 4 bulb honestly. I have 4 bulbs over my 40 breeder.

If you don't want to check out that fixture for sale, I would go t-5. find a fixture locally and then get ATI bulbs for it. The other option is some par 30's. I have 4 over my 55 gallon for a year and I grew anything I wanted.
