I noticed last night that my hermit crab was dragging around a larger shell that she's been obsessing about (almost big enough to fit in but not yet) so I figured it was normal behavior but then with a closer look it appears one of her legs are stuck in a spot in the other shell, kind of like a hand in a pickle jar. I tried to reposition her to make it so she could pull the leg out but she wasn't able to and come this morning she is still stuck.

Is there anything I can or should do to help free her or is she just going to eventually rip the leg off and regrow it with molts? My gf is bugging me to help her but I figured just let nature take its course :-/. The hermit crab is a stripped hermit, about 2 inches in size. I can provide a picture if necessary.

    Thanks!

i wouldn't worry about it personally...like you said before let nature run it's coarse. if you try to free it you might kill it, at least this way it's got a chance to free it'self and if it cant it's going to molt and fix it's self anyways

i would just easily pull his leg out the shell, your not going to kill it, the worst that could happen is he loses his leg, but that might happen anyways, but he will regrow it

hmm well now I'm split! I could try to pull the leg out, but I don't want her clamping down on my finger with her claws which are relatively large. Maybe I can use some gloves and do it. We'll see, maybe this will be moot by the time I get home.
